Not every kitchen update has to be a full gut job. And with all of the time we’ve been spending at home, we’re bound to get a little restless for a home project. The great news is, with any of these updates, you can have a kitchen that looks brand new for a fraction of the price.

Change Out Bottom Cabinets

Beginning with the largest project first, changing out the bottom cabinets only allows you to update the most used and abused area of your kitchen and therefore, the part that tends to show the most wear. It can also be a time to inject some color into your kitchen design as it is not advisable to try and match your top cabinets exactly with a brand new set of cabinets – they will simply never look the same. So try a bold color, maybe one picked up from your backsplash or favorite kitchen linens.

Create a Coffee Area or Mini-Bar

Another way to change it up is to add a coffee area or a minibar. This is an area designated by color, appliances, and/or storage just for your beverage of choice. This can be a part of your existing layout or a standalone section of the kitchen/counter. It is a great way to utilize awkward pop-outs or nooks in your kitchen.

Switch out Countertops

A single change with a big impact is replacing your countertops. Whether you are opting for all quartz or butcher block or beyond, it is a change that incorporates both color and texture for added depth to your kitchen design.

Add an Island

Adding a kitchen island is a great way to add character, color, and lots of extra prep and storage space to your kitchen! Unlike trends of the past, an island doesn’t have to match the color of your cabinets. Go bold or choose a wood tone that compliments other wood accents like beams or your flooring. A popular choice this year as in the past few years is a furniture-style island that contributes to the character and style of your home decor.

Change out Cabinet and Door Hardware

One of the easiest (and cheapest) upgrades you can make in your kitchen is switching out your cabinet and door hardware. There are so many styles and finishes of hardware that can really make a big difference. Plus, changing cabinet hardware is simple to do, with just a screwdriver in most cases.

Update Your Faucet

Finally, with a little plumbing savvy or even armed with just a YouTube video, changing the faucet on your sink can give your sink the happy little makeover it needs. You don’t have to be stuck with stock when there are so many style options and finishes to choose from!
